Windley Quarry - Florida Keys(This photo is a 360-degree IPIX interactive image, which allows you to navigate with your mouse: up, down, right and left, in order to see the entire surrounding landscape.) When the photo is first loaded you are standing on the floor of the Windley Quarry. Small trees and scattered clumps of grass can be seen growing up through the floor. A yellow building that houses the Alison Fahrer Environmental Education Center, which contains exhibits focusing on past and present geological aspects of barrier coral reef, is seen at top left. A wall of cut coral borders the quarry floor and stands just before the yellow building. As you continue to the right, large blocks of cut coral lie on the quarry floor. A bit further to the right, large blocks of cut coral lie before the quarry wall. Behind the wall is a border of trees. Continuing to the right, just before the yellow building comes back into view, quarry cutters set atop large blocks of coral. Navigating up with your mouse, you can see the blue, partly cloudy sky. Navigating down, you see the South Florida Information Access (SOFIA) web site logo, which is linked to the SOFIA main page (http://sofia.usgs.gov). |
