Hydrogeology, Ground-Water Movement, and Subsurface Storage in the Floridan Aquifer System in Southern FloridaBy Frederick W. MeyerProfessional Paper 1403-G Hydrogeology of Southern FloridaSouthern Florida is underlain by rocks of Cenozoic age to a depth of about 5,000 ft. These rocks are principally carbonates (limestone and dolostone), with minor amounts of evaporites (gypsum and anhydrite) in the lower part and elastics (sand and clay) in the upper part. The movement of ground water from inland areas to the ocean and vice versa occurs principally through the carbonate rocks.
