Stratigraphic SettingLateral lithology changes and a lack of consistent marker horizons make it difficult to subdivide and correlate rocks of the South Florida basin. Stages are established in only a few wells and stage boundaries are often approximate. Detailed stratigraphic nomenclature is developed only for those relatively few units of direct economic importance. For these reasons, the stratigraphic positions of the wireline data are defined here in terms of stage, or higher-rank time-stratigraphic boundaries. The divisions adopted for this report are shown in Figure 2. Boundary depths were derived at key well locations from Applin and Applin (1965), Puri and Winston (1974), and Palacas (1978), and extrapolated to other well locations on the basis of wire-line-log character. Figure 3 locates the stratigraphic positions of wire-line measurements from the wells located in Figure 1, and identified in Table 1.
