ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

This project is jointly funded by the South Florida Water Management District and the U.S. Geological Survey Priority Ecosystems Studies Program, South Florida study unit, under SFWMD contract no. C-15893, Biscayne Bay Paleoecological Salinity Study. We would especially like to thank our Project Managers Richard Alleman and Trisha Stone at SFWMD, and Ronnie Best, USGS, for their assistance and support. Many individuals at Biscayne National Park have facilitated this research; Richard Curry and Shay Viehman deserve special thanks. We have benefited greatly from conversations with Gwen Burzycki, Dade Department of Environmental Resources Management.

We would like to thank our reviewers, Lucy Edwards and Bruce Wardlaw, U.S. Geological Survey, for their thoughtful and thorough comments that improved the original manuscript. We owe our gratitude to the radiology department at Mariners Hospital, Tavernier, FL. Meg Griswald, Radiology Supervisor, accommodated us and made arrangements for us to have our cores x-rayed. Mr. Ball, radiology technician at Mariners, produced the x-radiographs of the 2003 cores included in this report. Keys Marine Lab, Long Key Florida, provided the facilities for us to cut the cores. Radiocarbon analyses were conducted by Beta Analytic Radiocarbon Dating Laboratory, Miami, Florida. James Murray, Rob Stamm, and Joe Murray (U.S. Geological Survey) assisted with field work and the collection of the cores.
