High Accuracy Elevation Data

Project Chief: Greg Desmond

The U.S. Geological Survey is coordinating the acquisition of high accuracy elevation data. The Global Positioning System (GPS) is being employed for the collection of field elevation points on a 500 meter grid system including roadways and canal banks. Mangrove wetlands are generally excluded. The elevation points are converted into USGS DEM files for use in modeling water flow. Data collected is reported with vertical datum NAVD 88 and the horizontal datum NAD 83(90). The vertical data is accurate to at least 0.5 feet.
