USGS NWIS WaterAlertU.S. Geological Survey WaterAlert service sends e-mail or text messages when certain parameters measured by a USGS data-collection station exceed user-definable thresholds. The development and maintenance of the WaterAlert system is supported by USGS and its data-collection partners, including numerous federal, state, and local agencies. EDEN users can access WaterAlert by going to the Recent Hourly link from any EDEN station page for a gaging station:
This links users to the USGS NWIS database page for that gage. Click WaterAlert under the recent hourly gage height plot near the bottom of the page:
The subscription form for a gage allows users to set a threshold condition for the gage height (in feet) for notification by email or mobile phone on an hourly or daily frequency:
CAUTION: EDEN users must be careful to note that most gages in EDEN are stored in NWIS to North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88) but some are stored at National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929 (NGVD29) (For a more thorough explanation of vertical datum, see "Methods used to Compute NAVD88 vertical datum"). The daily EDEN water-level surfaces are created at NAVD88 from gage water-level data that are converted, if necessary, to NAVD88. The conversions from NGVD29 to NAVD88 for EDEN gages are available on the EDEN station information pages. For assistance in setting proper thresholds for EDEN gages, contact Heather Henkel or Pamela Telis. |
